1975 Maclean's Smirnoff 17

The Bloody Caesar. What's tall, red, Smirnoff-blessed and not a Bloody Mary or Bloodhound? A Bloody Caesar that's what! Why people insist on experimentally pouring Smirnoff into things, we don't know. But when some clever rascal tried it with clam and tomato juice, lo and behold, it turned into a Bloody Caesar. To render a Bloody Caesar onto friends, Romans, or countrymen, simply pour 1 1/2 ozs. of Smirnoff, 3 ozs. of clam and tomato juice, squeeze of lemon and a dash of Worcestershire into a tall glass of ice. Season to taste and stir., Brand: Smirnoff selling vodka. Large image of a couple hanging out in a barn/work-shed/garage. The White Elephant. This drink is aptly named. We couldn't discuss it among ourselves without arguing. Otherwise, we'd have told you about it years ago. We agreed on the Smirnoff. We agreed on the crème de cacao. But was a White Elephant made with drink? About that, we couldn't agree. So, we tested the drink both ways. The milk version was hands down, "Delicious", tasters told us, "You hardly know you're drinking liquor." "That's why we oppose putting milk in the drink in the first place!" said the people who had opposed milk in the first place, "It goes down too easy." That's a problem we hadn't faced before. This drink has 2 oz. of liquor in it and if you don't notice it at first, you are sure to feel it later. So, hopefully you'll treat it (and yourself) with respect.
To make a White Elephant: Pour 1 oz. Smirnoff, 1 oz. white creme de cacao and 1 oz. milk into a short glass with ice. Stir., Brand: Smirnoff selling vodka. The Southpaw. Sometimes you can't see the forest for the trees. Maybe that's why we never thought of cola before. Good, old cola, is so obvious, we went right by it in our search for interesting things to mix with Smirnoff. Well, we never intended a slight to cola and, hastening to make amends, we mixed Smirnoff and cola and a squeeze of lemon. And voila, a Southpaw. We trust you'll find the Southpaw as tasty as we do. Now, you've got yo ways to enjoy cola. Straight. Or Southpaw.
To make Southpaw, pour 1 1/2 oz. of Smirnoff into a tall glass of ice, fill with cola and add a squeeze of lemon., Brand: Smirnoff selling vodka. The things you can do with Smirnoff. Everybody knows the Smirnoff of Bloody Marys, Screwdrivers, Martinis and Daiquiris. But versatile Smirnoff also goes with tonic, fruit and vegetable juices, and a host of other mixes, and of course with sunshine and checkered table cloth and shopping trips. Ask any outdoor cafe owner. He likes Smirnoff too., Brand: Smirnoff selling vodka. Large image of a couple enjoying themselves at a table in a outdoor cafe. The Charlie Brunch.
A friend of ours recently found himself with some unexpected guests, a bottle of Smirnoff and a supply of root beer. Neither he nor anyone present had mixed Smirnoff and root beer before. But the occasion called for a drink, the hour was late and the only place was a good distance away. They voted to make do with what they had. Our friend thought the result so surprisingly good that he suggested we try it. We agreed, and we passed the simple formula along, named after it's inventor. In doing so, we have no wish to convert anyone from plain old root beer when that's what the occasion calls for. Everything in it's place, we always say.
To make Charlie Brunch, pour 1 1/2 oz. Smirnoff into a tall glass of ice. Fill with root beer., Brand: Smirnoff selling vodka. Large image of a couple carving pumpkin and drinking the "Charlie Brunch". Below the image is the description of the product and the new drink in small black font. The Hot Adam's Apple.
(It's Smirnoff, boiled cider and spices)
Canadians have always liked their coffee hot, and their tea hot, but time was they liked their liquor hot too. Colonial tipplers liked their spirits steaming and, despite what you may have heard, they seldom took them straight. Cider, boiled and spiced, was the favourite mixer. We tried it mixed with Smirnoff and we were pleasantly surprised. Happy Holidays.
To make Hot Adam's Apple pour 1 1/2 oz. Smirnoff into a cup or mug. Add 4 oz. boiled cider, then add a twist of lemon, a dash of fresh nutmeg and a cinnamon stick.

1975 Maclean's SommetRouge 1

Sommet Rouge… It has to come of age before we blend it. The distinctive European taste of Sommet Rouge comes largely from a French hybrid grape now grown in BC's sun-drenched Okanagan Valley. Wine from this rare grape is matured in oak casks in the winery's cellars until it "comes of age". Then, and only then, is it carefully blended with fully aged wine from imported premium Californian grapes, bottled and corked. The result is a robust, dry red wine that has put Sommet Rouge in heavy demand wherever it is sold. Sommet Rouge. Canadian wine with the European accent., Brand: Calona Sommet Rouge selling wine. White background, alternating text and images of cask, grapes and the product. Text in bold black font.

1975 Maclean's Town&Country 1

Introducing Town & Country. A better whiskey.
Once in a long while, a whiskey comes along that is out of the ordinary. Town & Country is such a whiskey. It has the two essential qualities that give a very few whiskies their rare distinction. It is exceptionally light in body and it touches your palate with a mellowness that is extraordinary. To acquire these qualities Town & Country spent longer in the barrel than most Canadian whiskies. Which is why it costs a little more than most Canadian Whiskies. But it is a small price to pay for the difference between good and better.
