Ativan an uncomplicated benzodiazepine. Manages anxiety without turning off the patient. Uncomplicated metabolically. Ativan, in contrast with the common long-acting benzodiazepines, has no active metabolites and is metabolized in a simple one-step process. There is, therefore, no accumulation of multiple metabolites on repeated dosage. Less complicated clinically. Peak blood levels of Ativan usually occur within 2 hours after a single oral dose. Steady state serum levels are achieved in approximately two days as opposed to 4 to 9 days for diazepam. From the originators of the benzodiazepine molecule…a new anxiolytic standard. Introducing Lectopam a precision anxiolytic. 'Lectopam' - A new molecular structure. 'Lectopam' is a novel pyridyl benzodiazepine which possesses a desirable combination of potent anxiolytic activity with a reduced potential for excessive sedation. 'Lectopam' - a new standard of efficacy. Numerous studies worldwide have confirmed the efficacy of 'Lectopam' in comparative studies with oxazepam, lorazepam, diazepam, chlordiazepoxide and placebo. Compared to oxazepam. Clinical studies have found Lectopam to be equal or superior to oxazepam in the management of anxiety. In one study, patients who showed improvement with Lectopam deteriorated when crossed over to oxazepam. Conversely, patients who showed initial improvement with oxazepam experienced additional improvedment when crossed over to Lectopam. Comapred to lorazepam. Double-blind studies in patients with anxiety neurosis have demonstrated Lectopam to be equal or superior to lrazepam. Lectopam was also felt to be better tolerated than lorazepam. Lectopam - A new standard in the ratio of anxioltyic to sedative effect. "The practitioner has been provided with an excellent…and well-tolerate psychotropic agent (Lectopam) with only minimal side effects." "We have found that anxiety neurosis is a specific indication of this new benzodiazepine derivative (Lectopam)." Lectopam - A different pharmacokinetic profile. Rapid and complete absorption attained in 104 hours (average 2 hours) other agents may require up to 6 hours. A relatively short serum elimination half-life of 12 hours. Steady state is reached rapidly, generally within 2-3 days. Unpredicted accumulation is not observed after repeated dosing. Patient instructions. Patients prescribed Lectopam or any other anxiolytic should be advised against concurrent use of alcohol or other CNS depressant drugs and to avoid activities such as driving and operating dangerous machinery until any CNS effects are suitably assessed. Other considerations. Lectopam and other anxiolytics are not indicated for the anxieties of normal living but only when anxiety neurosis is found to interfere with the patient's ability to function. Long term treatment without frequent follow-up is not advised. Any anxiolytic should be gradually, and not abruptly discontinued. Loftran has less sedation…When compared to the single dose ketazolam (Loftran) group, drowsiness was reported twice as often in the divided dose diazepam group. In a Canadian Multi-Centre study the authors concluded that when Loftran is compared directly to clorazepate "…it was significantly better on the physician's assessment of the patients change and therapeutic effect of medication, patient Self-Rating Symptom Scale and patient assessment of feeling." Loftran "therefore appears to be more effective than clorazepate in treating symptoms of anxiety with a reduced incidence of side effects." In a multi-centre study involving over 750 patients the authors indicated that…Loftran is effective when given as a single daily dose at bedtime, assuring better patient compliance and convenience. The most frequent single dose was 30 mg taken once daily. New Loftran to untrouble the anxious mind. The last thing your depressed patient needs is more ups and downs. 4 tracings you're less likely to see with moderate doses of Ludiomil. 1. Arrhythimias. 2. Sinus tachycardia. 3. Conduction disorders. 4. Disturbances of repolarization. In short term studies with moderate doses of Ludiomil. E.C.G. incidents were rare. Moderate doses of Ludiomil rarely caused ECG disturbances such as sinus tachycardia in short term studies. Arrhythmias. Ludiomil has been used beneficially in some depressed patients with pre-existing arrhythmias. Reduced postural hypotension. Tetracyclic therapy with Ludiomil is associated with less hypotension than tradional tricyclic antidepressants. Less anticholinergic side effects. Dry mouth, blurred vision, sweating and constipation are less common with Ludiomil. Better compliance. The option of once-a-day dosage, once the dose has been established, should improve treatment, comfort and patient compliance. When night progresses and sleep evades…from the benzodiazepine originators, a new hypnotic…Mogadon. Effective in treating the most common form of insomnia. "Sleep onset difficulty (sleep latency) is one of the most common sleep disorders and approximately 80% of sleep disorders are of this kind." 'Mogadon' has been shown to significantly reduce sleep latency. Low incidence of hangover. After extensive use in thousands of patients, 'Mogadon' has demonstrated a low incidence of hangover. Documented safety record. In a toxicity report involving over 2,000 patients "unwanted effects were attributed to nitrazepam ('Mogadon') in only 3.4% of recipients." Low potential for abuse or dependence. The world-wide literature has revealed few reports of physical and/or psychological dependence with 'Mogadon.' In the therapeutic use, the risk of dependence with benzodiazepines is very low and has been estimated as being probably less than one case per 50 million patient months. Low incidence of interactions. For elderly insomniacs on multiple drug treatments, a particular concern is the potential interaction among concomitant medications. 'Mogadon' does not increase the activity of hepatic microsomal enzymes. Thus, the metabolism and desired clinical effects of other medications are maintained. Flexible dosage range. 'Mogadon' is available as 10 mg and 5 mg scored tablets. Thus 'Mogadon' offers a 2.5 mg to 10 mg h.s. dose flexibility to maximize efficacy and minimize potential adverse effects. New from Rhone-Poulenc research. Largactil 1952. Nozinan 1959. Piportil L4 new standard of effectiveness in neuroleptic therapy. Piportil L4 improved control over a wide range of schizophrenic symptoms. Piportil L4 is a new molecule with potent antipsychotic activity, weak sedative properties, and a longer duration of action than any other depot neuroleptic. Effective against residual symptoms. Relieves the major target symptoms of chronic schizophrenia, as well as emotional withdrawal, conceptual disorganization, uncooperativeness, unusual thought content, blunted affect and other residual symptoms which may persist with other neuroleptic agents. Improves symptoms in many patients regardless of previous medication. Patients already stabilized on other neuroleptics showed significant improvement when treated with Piportil L4. Sustained effectiveness. There has been no evidence of decreasing effectiveness in long term maintenance therapy. Most patients remain improved and stable, with few depressive symptoms after long-term use. Treatment with Piportil L4 could result in fewer relapses, and a better chance of social reintegration. Well tolerated. Fewer extrapyramidal side effects than depot fluphenazines. "All other side effects were rare (less than 7%)." There is no evidence of long-term toxicity, and the injection was well tolerated locally. Rapid control over the range of schizophrenic symptoms. Piportil L4. Improved control, simple transition. Treatment can begin immediately. After discontinuing previous antipsychotic medication, an initial dose of 50-100 mg may be administered.
