"We discovered a new way to tour Amsterdam. It's called the Water Walk."
"No miracle to it. Just a giant plastic bag. The wind at your back. And a heck a lot of fun. All zipped in. John and I are ready for our stroll down the Amstel river. A great way to travel - if you avoid things like boats and locks.
"The trick of the sport is to stay on your feet and keep the bag moving. Rather like doing the tango in an enormous bowl of gelatine.
"Oops! There we go again...toppled by the wake of a passing barge. And much to the amusement of the Amsterdamers watching from the stern.
"Later, at the 164 year old Klein Kalfje (Little Calf) Tavern, we toasted our adventure with Canadian Club." It seems wherever you go, C.C welcomes you. More people appreciate it's gentle manners. The pleasant way it behaves in mixed company. They admire it's unmistakable character. A taste not matched by any whiskey, anywhere. Canadian Club - "The Best in The House" in 87 lands., Brand: Canadian Club selling whiskey. Large vertical image of a couple engaged in water walk along the left side, with a header in black bold font. "We thought we were in a peaceful village until we realized we were being stalked by the primitive Mudmen of New Guinea."
1. "Anna and I always wanted to visit a tribe of Mudmen to see one of their Sing-Sing ceremonies," George Malynicz tell us. "Our guide, Peter Barter, refused to tell us exactly what their ceremony entailed, just to heightened the suspense a little. But we got more that what we bargained for. We followed the Asaro River into the New Guinea interior into a village where it was rumored, there might be a Sing-Sing. Sure enough there were only women and children in the huts. Peter said the men must be in the jungle preparing for the ceremony, and went to look for them. Anna and I waited near the village.
2. "Suddenly a lone warrior appeared out of the bush and moved slowly towards us. My first reaction was to grab Anna and run. But then I realized we were being stalked by at least 30 warriors from all sides. They approached us silently, carrying spears, in a kind of menacing slow motion dance. When I was certain we were done for, I spotted Peter taking pictures of the whole incredible thing. The Mudmen were highly unpredictable, and even Peter became concerned.
3. "Peter shouted to the Mudmen to stop stalking us and joined us to talk to them in pidgin English. We found out that that stalking Sing-Sing dance was a re-enactment of a legendary tribal battle which their ancestors won by frightening off their enemies. Looking at the Mudmen we could understand now.
4. "Back in Goroka, our hotel terrace was a welcome sight, and we couldn't stop asking about our adventure with the Mudmen. Even more welcome was the sight of Canadian Club." Smooth as the wind, Mellow as sunshine. Friendly as laughter. It's the whiskery that's light enough for women yet bold enough for men. The whiskey that's "The Best in The House" in 87 lands., Brand: Canadian Club selling whiskey. Full page ad. 1972 Maclean's Chemineaud 1
-
Some not so-straight things you can do with Chemineaud Brandy. Ask most people for a brandy, and they'll serve it neat, as an after dinner digestive. But CB is more versatile than that. Try some of the recipes below, and see what we mean With little imagination, and a little CB, you can create an evening to remember, we promise.
(Or, CB & just about anything)
Lets start with aperitifs: A Rolls-Royce cocktail for your companion. 3/4 oz. Leroux Triple Sec; 3/4 oz. CB; 1/2 oz. orange juice. Shake with ice and serve in cocktail glass, topped with a cherry. Side Car: 1/2 oz. Leroux Triple Sec; 3/4 oz. lemon juice; 3/4 oz. CB. Mix as above.
On to the main course: Pepper stake Flambe: Simply press peppercorns into the meat before cooking, and when things are sizzling nicely, add 1 oz. CB to each stake, and light. The slow burning flame seals in the flavour of the stake while retaining the flavour of the CB. Serve the stake Flambe with a fresh salad of olives, green beans and onions.
Now for dessert: Brandy Peach: A scoop of vanilla ice-cream covered with a peach-half (canned). Pour 1 oz. CB gently over the top. If your dinner companion is in the mood for a plum or an eggnog sauce, add a little CB to that too. Magnifique!
After dinner: The very contemporary Stinger: 1/2 oz. Lerouxe Creme de Menthe White; 1 oz. CB. Shake with ice, strain, and serve with a twist of lemon. If you're looking forward to a long, quiet evening be more ambitious. Create a Flamingo: equal parts (1/2oz) of Grenadine, Lerouxe Creme de Menthe Green, Lerouxe Triple Sec, and CB. Pour each ingredient slowly down the inside of a tilted glass to prevent the layers from mixing. (Use a 2 oz. Sherry glass or any tulip shaped drinking glass.) As a final touch, light the CB and let it flame until warm. Then put out the fire, sit back on the sofa, and relax. Even if you aren't the first one to experiment with CB, you're certainly making the most of it., Brand: Chemineaud selling brand. Black background with white text, Large and bold as header and the rest in small but bold. Center image is of the product and a few mixed drinks. Below this are a few recipes.
