It lifts depression just as quickly and effectively as imipramine and amitriptyline. No anticholinergic problems. Patient acceptance is far greater with Norval. Clinical studies have shown that Norval does not cause the upsetting anticholinergic side-effects associated with tricyclic antidepressants. No cardiac problems. Specific studies have revealed no adverse cardiac effects so Norval can be prescribed with greater confidence, particularly in the elderly. Wide safety margin. An additional benefit of Norval is its relatively high safety margin - a point of importance when treating depressed patients who may attempt suicide.
