Earlier onset of clinical response. Asendin provides a more rapid onset of clinical response in many patients than either amitriptyline or imipramine. Effectiveness documented in clinical trials. Compared to Amitriptyline: "In this study, amoxapine (Asendin) was found to effect a therapeutic response somewhat earlier than amitriptyline. Moreover, amoxapine had an early favourable effects (3-4 days) in four of five bipolar patients." Compared to Imipramine: "Besides the advantages of early onset of activity for amoxapine (Asendin), amoxapine appeared to bring about greater quantitative improvement than either imipramine of inert placebo during the last weeks in treatment." Well tolerated. Asendin offers effective relief of a broad range of symptoms often within the first week…without increased risk of anticholinergic and cardiovascular side effects.
