Search and Discovery. The process of search and discovery in any field is a continuous one. Some discoveries are sensational and of far-reaching consequence. Some are arrived at, one slow step at a time. Their effect is no less far-reaching. Glaxo constantly is searching for new processess; new medicines; new materials for proven medicines. Glaxo's research laboratories have a special process to isolate sapogenin solasodine from Solanum Khasianum berries - a new source for the corticosteroid Betamethasone, the most potent anti-inflammatory and anti-allergenic corticosteroid so far introduced into India. A thorn-reduced, high yeilding strain has been developed and the Botany Unit is working hard to locate new strains. The study of the agronomy of the plant helps Glaxo to give technical guidance to farmers who grow the crop commercially. This Is just one instance of discovery. The search goes on. |
