Our Bru customers have been facing a severe shortage of our product. This needs some explanation. We know how hard it has been of late for you to get your favourite Bru and because we sincerely regret the inconvenience you are having to face we would like to explain the reasons for it. Why is there a shortage of Bru? The main reason is Bru's immense popularity- the demand is so high that we just can't make enough of it. Factors have been outside our control; as early as May 1978 we foresaw a shortage developing; and asked, Government approval for a new factory. The approval is still awaited. To add to the problem, the Indian Coffee Board asked us to help meet an important export commitment. In view of national priorities, we agreed- and the result was an even greater shortage of Bru. What is Brooke Bond doing about the shortage? Everything we can. We are working our factories to full capacity, round the clock. And we are taking great care to ensure a fair and equitable system of distribution to all Bru retailers so that although supplies are not as plentiful as you would like, they are at least steady.
