| Abstract |
An advertisement for Kantarion antidepressants, otherwise known as Hypericum perforatum (Perforate St John’s wort). This is a plant used as a traditional herbal medication for depression. The ad mentions several different symptoms it can improve, such as stress/fear, dizziness, loss of concentration, negative thoughts and more. The ad mentions this medication will not cause addiction like other classes of benzodiazepines, and that it is more effective than the St. John’s wort oil. There is an image of the Kantarion bottle, but the writing is too blurry to make out. An important note is that St. John’s is now known to have many adverse drug-drug interactions because it induces the cytochrome P450 enzymes and thus causes increased metabolism of other drugs. This means that when taken with other drugs, it causes lower plasma concentrations of those drugs, making them ineffective. |
