The active ingredient of Vagran 50 is chlorhydrate of propizepine, a synthetic substance made by UPSA Centre of Research and Laboratories. Its activity situates it within the family of antidepressants known as tricylics. It is a pyridobenzodiazepine so its chemical structure is similar to that of imipramine.
